OPPORTUNITY
'Legging' it 120 miles to celebrate Easter
What:
250 pilgrims will be walking to
Walsingham to celebrate the Easter weekend. Each walker will be part of one
of ten groups, or 'legs', with each leg carrying a large, wooden cross to
demonstrate their Christian faith.
Most of the groups (or 'legs') will have walked about 120 miles in the week
from various points around the country. Another leg will have started on
Wednesday and a further leg (for older walkers and those otherwise unable to
walk the full week) on Good Friday itself. The ninth and tenth legs are
family groups called 'Peg Leg', and 'Wells Leg' which each meet for a week
of activities and short walks in King’s Lynn and Wells-next-the-Sea
respectively, and then arrive with everyone else at the Slipper Chapel on
Good Friday.
When:
-
Arrival at the Roman Catholic Shrine in Walsingham (Slipper Chapel,
Houghton St Giles):
Friday 21 March – 3:15 – 4.15pm
-
Candle-lit procession through the streets of Walsingham: Saturday 22
March – 11pm
-
'Holy Trot' with 10 decorated crosses around the holy sites of
Walsingham: Sunday 23 March - 11.45am
-
Opportunities to photograph the walkers on each leg will be available
from Saturday 15 March to Friday 21 March.
