Midland Leg -
Pilgrim profile
Why keep walking?
Student Cross is not just something religious to do at Easter, it IS
Easter. Every time I walk I suffer the worst blisters and foot pains
and hangovers, and yet without fail all are forgotten by the next
Easter and my next pilgrimage to Walsingham. Besides some of my best
friends have come from Student Cross’ signature rainy days and
church-hall nights.
A fact no-one knows about you?
I love cheese
Essential piece of pilgrim kit?
Micropore – use it to fix everything.
Front traffic or support car packer?
Support car always, if only for the stealth bakery trips and the
morning chat with bemused locals… and to buy toothbrushes, of
course.
Ideal sandwich filling and accompanying drink?
Couscous in a cup and a pint of moonshine for the feet.
Favourite song (on the road or in the pub)?
'John Kaknacka-naka' on the road. 'I have fallen for another' in the
pub.
What makes a good leg liturgy?
Hymns loved by the leg and as many Dominicans as you can catch.
A pilgrim prayer in 20 words or less?
Lord, give me strong legs, hardened feet and a hand to hold all the
way. Amen.
What Walsingham means to you?
Walsingham is to me a place of rest, reflection and celebration
every time it is filled with a gaggle of Student Crossers.
Anything else to declare?
It is definitely the best way to understand Easter. Better than
Christmas. |
