London Leg -
Pilgrim profile 1
Why keep walking?
Because the intense friendships, the chance to recharge and reflect,
the beautiful countryside and the amazing generosity of the people
we meet always cancel out the blisters and sore feet. And because
every year's better than the last (including the cake)!
Essential piece of pilgrim kit?
Earplugs. There are some spectacular snorers around.
Front traffic or support car packer?
Front traffic. The power of having the map... Packing the support
car is like horrible 3-D Tetris.
Ideal sandwich filling and accompanying drink?
Hoummus and salad wrap with a glass of Pimms, outside in the
sunshine (if we're lucky).
Favourite song (on the road or in the pub)?
Anything we've learnt from the Rev H Barrie Morris of Beck Row
Methodist Church when on the road; I Useta Love Her in the pub.
What makes a good leg liturgy?
A brilliant chaplain and liturgy team who can come up with a mixture
of words, music and silence that can make you laugh, cry or
frequently both.
A pilgrim prayer in 20 words or less?
Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
What Walsingham means to you?
Relief that we've arrived, then the exhilaration of celebrating
Easter with the whole of Student Cross. And the chance to pick up
some classy souvenirs in the tat shops.
Anything else to declare?
Student Cross needs a health warning - it's probably addictive.

Pilgrim profile 2
Why keep walking?
Because I've met so many wonderful people, because it's such a
joyful and spiritual way to celebrate Easter, because it's different
every time and because (like biscuits) I can never resist 'just one
more'!
A fact no-one knows about you?
My entire life is planned out in an array of teeny tiny notebooks...
Essential piece of pilgrim kit?
A smile
Front traffic or support car packer?
Traffic. Say no to early mornings and spatial awareness.
Ideal sandwich filling and accompanying drink?
Good quality ham and decent chutney in multiseed bread accompanied
by orange juice and lemonade (aka sunshine in a glass).
Favourite song (on the road or in the pub)?
In Walsingham Buy Tat
What makes a good leg liturgy?
A sense of closeness to each other and to God.
A pilgrim prayer in 20 words or less?
We pray for fabulous weather, excellent cake and blister-free feet.
Lord be the companion of our journey.
What Walsingham means to you?
Joy, relief, showers, reflection, prayer, praise, celebration,
belonging, lifelong friendships (often experienced in that order)...
and an opportunity to buy tat!
Anything else to declare?
I've realised my year divides into 'Looking forward to Student
Cross' and 'Reminiscing about how great was Student Cross' (with
perhaps a brief interval for Eurovision).
